A small Bitcoin miner is a good way to learn how mining works. It is not a promise of profit. Before buying, think about power, heat and noise.
Power use
Check the miner’s wattage and your electricity price. Multiply the watts by the hours used, then divide by 1,000 to find kilowatt-hours. Multiply that number by your price per kilowatt-hour.
Heat
Almost all electricity used by a miner becomes heat. Leave space around the device and do not cover its air vents. Keep it away from water, cloth and direct sunlight.
Noise
Fans can be easy to hear in a quiet room. Put the miner on a firm surface and keep it away from bedrooms or work calls.
Set fair expectations
Small miners are best for learning and taking part in the network. Earnings can change with Bitcoin price, mining difficulty, pool fees and electricity costs.
